We are seeking two experienced, self-employed gardeners, to work closely with the current Estate Gardener and Groundsman, to work on maintaining and improving the gardens and grounds.
The Gardens and Estate
● Langham Hall sits in a small estate of 125 acres of gardens, parkland, meadows and woods. The meadows are let to sheep and hay farmers.
● There are c.4 acres of gardens and lawns around the house, and a woodland garden.
● In addition, the 2.5 acre Langham Hall Walled Garden dates from the early 1700s and is split broadly evenly between an ornamental garden and a kitchen garden. The kitchen end contains an orchard, fruit, vegetables, herbs and a cutting bed. The ornamental end contains herbaceous borders.
● We host the annual Langham Hall Garden Festival, in aid of a local charity, in June each year.

Responsibilities
We are seeking two experienced, self-employed gardeners, to work closely with the current Estate Gardener and Groundsman, to work on maintaining and improving the gardens and grounds.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Borders: pruning and cutting back plants and shrubs, watering and plant feeding, weeding and digging out / stump grinding of self-seeded vegetation, mulching, applying wood chip.
- Lawns: mowing, edging, aerating, scarifying, fertilising.
- Paths: weeding and maintenance
- Bringing on plants from seed or cuttings.
- Driving the mini tractor (a retired lawn mower) and trailer.
- Assisting the Estate Gardener and Groundsman with other jobs, particularly when he is on holiday, including leaf clearing, tree and hedgerow planting, clearing windblown trees and logs, wood splitting, work on ditches, basic maintenance of fences.
- General garden and grounds maintenance not covered above.
- Assisting with set-up and on the day management of the Langham Hall Garden Festival including signage, car parking, ticketing.

Essential:
● Gardening experience and horticultural knowledge.

● Enthusiastic, hard-working, practical, reliable, organised and self-motivated.
● Proactive at spotting issues and fixing them.
● Driving licence.
Nice to have (these are not a requirement and training courses will be provided as necessary):
● Chainsaw certificates
● Experience of driving a small digger/digger certificates
● RHS levels 1-3 qualifications
